Zilliqa unveils Web3 console to compete with PlayStation?

Zilliqa has announced the launch of its Web3 game console, the company seems ready to launch into an industry led by PlayStation, Microsoft and Nintendo. The upcoming console will have multiple features that will allow players to have fun while mining the native network token, ZIL.

In early September, Zilliqa announced the imminent launch of their first blockchain game, called Web3 War. The first person shooter (FPS) and console are part of a broader strategy to leverage the growing adoption of blockchain games and an important milestone in the expansion of the ZIL ecosystem.

Zilliqa attempts to enter the PlayStation and Steam domains with a new console

According to a report by Venture Beat, the game consoles will be available for pre-order in early 2023. At that time, the main feature of the console will enter a test phase: the gaming hub.

In addition to this functionality, the game console will provide users with access to a native Web3 wallet. The combination of these capabilities, along with its own marketplace for in-game item trading and the option to earn rewards, is designed to compete with Steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo.

The largest gaming marketplace in the Steam industry allows players to purchase games, engage in debates, trade items, earn unique accessories, participate in community activities, and more. Zilliqa will attempt to take these features to the next level with its next game console.

One of the main goals will be to integrate non-crypto users into the ecosystem while increasing the decentralization of the network by allowing these players to mine ZIL tokens. This way, users will be able to own the native token to stake it and earn extra rewards, without having to purchase additional hardware.

Valentin Cobelea, Zilliqa’s head of gaming technology, said the following about their next console and how it will attract non-crypto players into its ecosystem while competing with some of the biggest companies in the gaming industry:

Zilliqa’s hardware console and gaming hub will allow non-crypto natives to earn money by playing fun games without the complexity of managing the cryptocurrencies they earn. We will launch the console and gaming hub early next year with two Zilliqa games, followed by more games from different creators. With the support of Zilliqa’s vast cryptocurrency community and easy-to-use infrastructure, we have no doubt that we can become the Steam equivalent for Web3 games.

The price of ZIL reacts to the news

Below, there is an image of the upcoming Zilliqa console that is reminiscent of some of the consoles offered by PlayStation and Microsoft in recent years. Similar to hardware, the Web3 console will provide users with a variety of ports and internet access, among other features. Cobelea added:

After announcing our first game at Gamescom, we have had a great response from the gaming community and are thrilled to say it was just the beginning.
